About the Winery Lopez de Heredia - one of the most venerable producers in Spain– produces traditional, age-worthy Rioja. Their wines are legendary and still made the way they were when the winery was founded over 130 years ago. Following a tradition that has been passed down through generations, their wines are released at least five to ten years after harvest, which provides added complexity and elegance to their Crianzas and Gran Reservas. The winery itself is a remarkable structure. When D. Rafael López de Heredia y Landeta began building the bodega in the late 1800's, little did he realize that his masterpiece would one day be acknowledged as an example to the rest of the industry of the most perfect combination of buildings and vineyards. Like many medieval masterpieces, it is still incomplete. The buildings stand below and above ground, and are a veritable "cathedral to wine". Moving through the vaulted underground corridors and staircases, you find yourself traveling back in time, and the founder’s touch can still be sensed in the very stones and fabric of the building. About the Wine This wine has evolved perfectly showing a deep ruby color with shades of orange. Its nose is persistent, full bodied and showing a lot of mature fruit, being dominated by the Tempranillo grape. On the palate the wine is round, smooth, fresh, full of body and persistent. Aged for five years in barrel, being racked twice per year and fined with fresh egg whites. Bottled unfiltered. Perfect with roasted and highly flavored meats, lamb and game. * * * 2018 Black Powder Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Normally $$44.99–$38.24 15% Off This Week ONLY! About the Winemaker Growing up in Napa Valley, Bobby has never been far from the vine. He was fascinated with wine growing from an early age. Originally, he pursued his passion for wines as a Sommelier, and became familiar with the wines of the world. But after working several harvests on the central coast of California, He soon realized that he was much more fulfilled when surrounded by vines and barrels. Though it is not an easy decision to make, Bobby decided to go back to college for winemaking. With a double major in chemistry and winemaking from Oregon State University, Bobby went back home to the Napa Valley and worked for three years under the tutelage of some of Napa’s most famed winemakers including Thomas River Brown. The apprenticeship helped Bobby build up his solid winemaking expertise in most French varietals, among which his favorite grapes are Cabernet and Grenache. Not surprisingly, Bobby initiated his own winery with his family investment soon after his internship. About the Wine Bobby approaches winemaking as an art form with its roots in science. Influenced by the terroir, he balances the understanding of traditional and contemporary winemaking methods to produce an authentic expression of the site. With this philosophy, Bobby strives to produce wines with a sense of place and balanced tension that engage the mind and beg to be shared. This wine was crafted by Bobby in order to embody the best of Napa Valley’s diverse growing regions in one harmonious blend grown from multiple premier vineyards. They are aged in separate lots, Bobby only chose the most exceptional barrels for this Cabernet Sauvignon. Rich and elegant, with opulent fruit leading to a finish that leaves the palate savoring for more. * * * Also Tasting Today: NV Clotilde Davenne Cremant de Bourgogne Extra Brut Rose $29.99 About the Winery Clotilde Davenne started her studies in 1986, which was followed by a stint in California making sparkling wine. Since oenology only covers the winemaking and not the work in the vineyards, she decided to go back to school and learn more about this when she returned to France. Davenne then finished off with marketing studies before going to Beaujolais to work. When Clotilde Davenne planted her first vines back in 1992, she did not quite see it as the start of her own domaine. She had just bought a house in Préhy, 7.5 kilometers southwest of Chablis, and selling the grapes was mainly a way to finance the restoration of the house. But her Domaine Les Temps Perdus continued to grow and in 2005 she decided to quit her job as oenologist at Domaine Jean-Marc Brocard after 17 years and 16 vintages. About the Wine Davenne's dream had always been to have her “hands on” all aspects of the production and as a grower she is now fully integrated into the life of each of her wines, from bud break to bottle. The results are soulful, expressively vibrant wines that uniquely speak of the particularity of their origin. Coming from extremely old and deep-rooted, low-yielding vines, and viticulture is practiced with great respect for the environment and no filtration is used prior to bottling. The Cremant de Bourgogne Brut Rosé is a beautiful wine that we were so excited to continually bring in. Her Brut Rosé offers a delectable nose of green apple and pink grapefruit. The palate is bright with crisp and complex flavors. This sparkling rosé is an absolute hit! * * * 2018 Hartford Court Four Hearts Vineyards Russian River Valley Chardonnay $54.99 About the Winery Hartford Family Winery was founded in 1994 as a result of Don and Jennifer Hartford’s appreciation for the wines, the people, and the unique vineyards near their Russian River Valley home. Critical Acclaim "More brioche, honeysuckle, pineapple, and caramelized citrus notes all emerge from the 2018 Chardonnay Four Hearts Vineyards, which is beautifully balanced, medium to full-bodied, and textured on the palate. It shows the more supple, easygoing style of the vintage for Chardonnay yet still has beautiful freshness, good concentration, and a great finish."–95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck * * * Cocktail Recipe of the Week: Love Potion Ingredients: 1/2 cup Ice 1/2 cup Fresh or Frozen Strawberries 1 scoop Vanilla Ice Cream 1 ounce Claremont New Jersey Vodka 1/2 ounce Giffard Crème de Cacao Liqueur Strawberry, for Garnish Directions: Gather the ingredients.
