About the Winery

“To put my own produced bottle of wine on the table, which not only bears my handwriting but also shows my name on the label” in the company of my friends and family. That has been Rainer Wess’s dream ever since his childhood. Rainer was able to fulfill this dream with the founding of his winery in 2003, in a small rented cellar in the Unterloibner Kellergasse. Wine was made from purchased grapes from the best locations in the area. However, this cellar soon became too small and in 2009 they moved to the Krems area into an empty cellar of Wilhering Abbey. A modern, gentle and energy-saving grape reception was added to the old building. Today, the Winery Rainer Wess cultivates about 15 hectares and is a member of the Association of Austrian Traditionsweingüter. With Christina & David as the second generation who are at the helm of Rainer Wess winery. To work together with Rainer in the pursuit of bringing the locations into the bottle – as unadulterated, inartificial and pure as possible.

About the Wine

In their relationship with their vineyards, the same basic principles are important to them, which are also considered important in their dealings with each other. These are: respect, support and sensitivity in all our actions and inactivity. Especially “the inactivity ” and accepting the natural imperfection – far away from perfectionism – is a concern. After all, a vineyard is not only a cultivated area but moreover a habitat and cultural heritage. Since the founding of the winery, it has always been clear that they not only want to maintain the vineyards as well as possible but  also want to give something back to them with sustainable management. This is also accomplished with the renunciation of herbicide, insecticide or even a copper-reduced plant protection. The harvest by hand is also one of the basic principles of the winery, together with a selected harvest to avoid a botrytis influence, since each grape is taken individually in their hands.

Hand harvested in the mid of October. The vineyards are all favored by cooler microclimates, as they are located in Egelsee and Riede Braunsdorfer in Stein. This white blend consists of Muscats, Sauvignon Blanc, Müller-Thurgau, Chardonnay, Frühroter Veltliner and Grüner Veltliner all traditionally fermented together. With grapefruit, stone fruit, delicate seasoning, and harmonious texture, this wine has captivating scent play with fruity enamel on the palate and finish.

About the Winery

Founded in 1934, the De Martino family has specialized, for four generations, in creating wines that are a faithful reflection of their origin, coming from selected parcels throughout Chile. Wines of great purity, with a sense of place and balance, are a consequence of sustainable agriculture and traditional fermentation techniques. The fourth generation headed by Marco Antonio and Sebastián De Martino, along with their team, continue with their constant search for exciting terroirs, the same as polishing their house style.

In the Coast the De Martino’s farm vineyards in Limarí (limestone, clay soils) and Casablanca (granite soils), where they specialize in Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc. In the mild – warm climate of Maipo (gravel soils) they grow Carmenere and Cabernet Sauvignon. In the southern region they focus their attention at old vines, field blends, dry farmed vineyards in Cahcapoal and Maule (granite soils). In the coast of Itata (450 km south of Santiago), where first vineyards were planted back in 1551, the De Martino’s farm old vines–up to 110 year old–grown sustainably over granite, resulting in exciting Cinsault, Muscat and some other rarities.

About the Wine

Vigno is a Carignan from an old, 4.5-hectare vineyard planted in 1955. It is a complex wine with great ageing potential that shows all the promise of this classic variety from Maule. Situated on decomposed granite soils with some clay, the vines experience a Temperate Mediterranean climate; this contributes to the ripeness of the grapes. The grapes for this wine are a field blend of 85% Carignan and 15 % other varieties (Malbec, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere). The grapes were harvested on March 24th, 14 days later than 2015, with an average yield. Winter was drier and warmer than usual for the region, although spring was colder and rainy, affecting flowering and fruit set. Summer was warm and dry, still ripeness came later than in 2015. The grapes are destemmed and the whole berries (no crushing involved) are gently placed in-tank, undergoing cold maceration for seven days. Alcoholic fermentation is spontaneous, once finished the wine was left in contact with the skins for 20 days before being racked into 5,000L Foudres.
